Tim Nikolsky interviewed by Ian Patterson about the Australian Jazz Real Book
AJRB Draft 4
Draft 4 is looking great! 380 Tunes and 560 pages. The difference between draft 3 is quite big; with many tunes taken out and many added to be more inclusive.
Some great photos by Tash dispersed throughout the book.
Not far to go now!

Welcome to www.australianjazzrealbook.com
My aim with this site is to compile a book of sheet music called the “Australian Jazz Real Book” featuring Australian jazz tunes from Australian composers.
I am doing it as a research study at RMIT University. At the end of it i’d like to make it available for musicians to use.
The idea of it is to create a resource that students can turn to for repertoire that is uniquely Australian; containing tunes that are “gig-ready” and also representative of the Australian Jazz Sound. There are many fantastic tunes out there; hopefully we’ll play them more if they are published and easily available.
What are your favourite Australian jazz tunes? Which tunes float your boat or spin your wheels?
Which tunes are deserving of greater listening and playing?
I am interested in hearing from jazz listeners and players alike.
It’s a big task but I’m really excited about working on what I think is a very worthwhile project.
